Ashley Hilton

After returning from a few years travelling and working overseas, I stumbled upon jewellery making. I studied with Pete Elsbury in Nelson and Peter Minturn in Auckland, then spent a year working with four jewellers at Mint Jewellery Collective in Nelson.

I am interested in the way jewellery involves both creativity and construction; the combination of tools, materials and processes along with design and creativity and how these affect each other.

I try to reflect both the human and natural environment in my work by using symbols and materials that have meaning to me and represent where I come from.

I have been making jewellery full time for four years and now live in Nelson.
