Burwell Hunt

In 2004 I retired to Coromandel after 45 years architectural practice, mainly in Christchurch & Wellington.

What began as a part-time hobby in 2001 was developed during a year at Whitireia Polytech in 2004 and has now become a full-time commitment to the design and craft of jewellery. Working mainly in silver, I am fascinated by the development of strong 3-dimensional forms and the resultant marks and texture achieved by hammer forging. Although not directly a literal interpretation of nature, my work derives inspiration from the organic elements around me..

I am particularly inspired by the strong, deceptively simple, elegant sculptural forms of the heroic period of the 20th Century ‘Modern’ movement & seek to interpret my intuitive response to my time & a lifetime involvement with design, materials, techniques & form..
