Cheryl Sills

I work primarily with silver and modern materials such as silicone rubber and resin. My fascination with combining traditional and modern materials started during my four-year degree course in Dundee, Scotland.

I am now based in Auckland and renting a work space at Workshop 6.

In my current work, I have taken a contemporary look at precious stones by handcrafting rubber stones and setting them in traditional style settings. In doing this, I hope to question what makes a material precious. Can industrial materials, if crafted and manipulated to create a unique object, become beautiful and, in turn, valuable?
