David Mcleod

I had an initial arts career in sculpture, including several architectural scale commissions, I am now working principally in a jewellery context.

Most of my work has a social or political narrative, though in saying this sometimes a process, technique or way of attaching or combining materials may be the primary motivation in creating the work.

Recent themes have included the cultural context and ownership of materials, such as pounamu, mother of pearl, paua and bone.

My work utilizes mainly materials sourced in New Zealand and Australia, I prefer where possible to source, select, and form these to my own requirements.

Most importantly I work with good people, listen to good music, drink good coffee, where I enjoy exploring possibilities and making new work.
