John Z Robinson

John grew up in Foxton and completed a manufacturing jewellery apprenticeship with Max Wilson in Palmerston North. He moved to the South island in the ‘70s and attended Art School in Dunedin, majoring in painting. After a twenty year break, John has re-approached metal work as an artistic medium, and runs a painting and jewellery studio in Dunedin’s historic Stuart Street.

John says about his work: “The old mantras of ‘form and function’ and ‘truth to materials; still reverberates with me. Old fashioned yes, but so is the metal working craft. I like handmade jewellery that can be worn comfortably and confidently; something wearable and durable. I like something that looks good and feels good, on or off the body.”
