Mia Straka

Mia Straka trained at Unitec graduating with a Bachelor of Design-Jewellery (Hons) in 2001. Currently she works from Workshop 6 in Auckland. Mia has exhibited both nationally and internationally.

'In our era of technology there is something special about working with my hands using age-old techniques. I love the process of experimentation and discovery in making as well as the meaning jewellery can embody. The Grow series sprung from an autumn tramp over the Tongariro crossing. On the exposed mountain all I could see flourishing was sprigs of tiny white moss. It was delicate and beautiful but strong in harsh conditions.'
