The love of collecting shells and stones, combing beaches and rivers at an early age set me up for the life of a jewellery maker.

Identifying as Maori, having a strong connection with Whanau,Hapu and Iwi gives me a positive stance, informs my art work and continues my interest in all things Tangata Whenua.

Aotearoa inspires me to use the resources she possesses, Pounamu with its range of colour, translucency, versatility and beauty is my favorite treasure to work with.

In 2007, I graduated from Whitireia Polytechnic with the Bachelor of Applied Arts degree majoring in jewellery design.

The years spent there were a huge learning curve of jewellery techniques and skills, conceptual and contextual applications and a great array of inspirational tutors and peers.

My art practice is a mixture of jewellery making, teaching and working. I continue to extend my skills and knowledge, participating in exhibitions, workshops and selling work through galleries and shops.

I am currently exploring silver, gold and steel combinations with Pounamu, inspired by the early 19th century German silversmiths.

Steel is a potent combination with Pounamu the idea of the hardness and strength of steel being relative to Pounamu. Steel replaced Pounamu for adzes, carving tools, axes and a variety of other implements with the arrival Europeans.

The red enamel is a flick of colour I use as representative of 'toto' blood and ardour.

I will continue to experiment and experience through the making process, it is my passion and joy, all these taonga I put out into the world are to be worn and enjoyed.
