Peter Deckers

Peter graduated from a special jewellery and design school in the Netherlands in 1980. He then studied Fine Arts in Rotterdam for a year. He was a co-founder of a workshop/gallery. Then in 1985 Peter and his wife immigrated to New Zealand. Since then Peter has worked from a home workshop. In 1989 Peter started tutoring part-time at Whitireia Polytechnic in Porirua, where he is now the principle jewellery tutor.

Most of Peter's works are one-off, and always based on thought processes or concept-based. The slant of his ideas can be recognized from the titles of the pieces. Peter's use of materials are appropriate to the idea, eg. recycled costume jewellery or other so-called "valueless" materials.
