In 1984 Phillipa started her studies at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, where she completed a Degree in Fine Art, majoring in Contemporary Jewellery. She was awarded a QEII Arts Council Grant to help fund her studies.
Phillipa works almost entirely in silver, and is inspired by nature and man-made patterns. Phillipa often uses wire, and her matt white finish (always applied to her work) makes her pieces easily recognisable.
āIām always looking at things from the point of view of making jewellery. E.g. river stones, a tangled pile of audio tape, a wrought iron gate and tapa cloth have all given me ideas for jewellery.ā
She bought Quoil Gallery in Wellington in 2007, and is now following her other passion; promoting New Zealand contemporary jewellers and their work.
