Ruth Baird

Ruth has been making jewellery since 1969, when she attended a night class while living in London. She says she has mainly learnt by trial and error. In 1974 she helped found 'Fingers' in Auckland.

Ruth says of her work "I make jewellery partly because I find working with my hands satisfying, and also because I enjoy creating objects which are beautiful and powerful and which touch other people. Recently I have noticed that I am also beginning to enjoy the solving of technical problems! Increasingly I find I am concerned with nature: its forms, processes and symbols."

When not being a jeweller, Ruth enjoys nature and art, her family and her cats, and wine and food. Ruth works from her home in Titirangi, Auckland.
