Stephanie is a contemporary jeweller from Christchurch, and with her husband Peter, has developed the Damascus ring range.
Peter is a knife maker, and makes Damascus steel as it has been made for centuries, forging layered steel and iron, heating and beating the metals until hundreds of layers are made. This is what gives the 'oil on water' effect in the Damascus steel. As the metal is not treated until the ring is completed, the pattern is unknown until the very last process.
These rings are individually unique as no two steel patterns will ever be the same. Not only is the time-honoured symbolism of the ring important, but also the joining of hard and enduring metals with softer and precious ones.
Stephanie is currently taking some time to live and work overseas, so is not able to take commisions.
